Pregnancy Precaution

Severity: high Category: precaution
pregnant

Hot peat baths and full-body wraps are contraindicated during pregnancy. Maternal hyperthermia (core body temperature above 39°C) is associated with increased risk of neural tube defects, particularly in the first trimester. The thermal retention properties of peat — normally beneficial — make this risk more pronounced than with regular hot baths.

Affected Applications

Full-immersion peat baths and hot body wraps are contraindicated. Localized applications (extremity wraps at moderate temperature, face masks, scalp treatments) are generally considered safe but should be discussed with healthcare provider.

Regulatory Note

Cosmetic peat products intended for general consumer use should include pregnancy warnings on packaging for any product used in heated application or full-body immersion.
