Cardiovascular Precaution
Hot peat baths (38–42°C) cause significant vasodilation, increased heart rate, and cardiac workload. For patients with unstable cardiovascular conditions, uncontrolled hypertension, or recent cardiac events, full-immersion hot peat baths pose a risk of cardiac stress, hypotension, or syncope.
Affected Applications
Primarily affects balneotherapy (full immersion at high temperature). Body wraps and poultices at moderate temperatures carry lower risk. Topical applications (face masks, scalp treatments, compresses) are not affected.
Mitigation
Clinical settings address this through medical screening before treatment, gradual temperature increases, shorter session durations, and continuous monitoring. For home peat bath products, lower temperatures (37–38°C) are recommended, with explicit warnings for cardiovascular patients.
