Peat Industry Context
The most striking finding: less than 1% of global peat production is used for chemical processing. The overwhelming majority of peat extracted worldwide is burned for energy or used as agricultural growing medium. Medicinal and cosmetic applications are a small-volume, high-value segment of an industry dominated by bulk commodity uses.
This proportion matters for two reasons. First, it establishes that cosmetic peat is not a driver of peat extraction at industrial scale — volume is negligible relative to energy peat. Second, it underscores that the scientific literature on therapeutic peat is addressing a niche application, not the mainstream industry, which partially explains why the research base is smaller than the clinical tradition.
Chemical Composition Variables
